Ad Submission Guidelines

Journals we work with:

BASOR (Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research)
JAOS (Journal of the American Oriental Society)
JETS (Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society)
BBR (The Bulletin for Biblical Research)
JTI (The Journal for Theological Interpretation)
JSPL (The Journal for the Study of Paul and his Letters)

Advertisements to be placed in these journals should ideally be provided as press-ready Acrobat PDF files.

These are generally best created by using Acrobat Distiller to create the PDF from a PostScript file. Even though many applications used to create advertisements are able to save the file as a PDF file, this method sometimes has unexpected or unpredictable results. When creating the PostScript file, be sure to check the box that specifies "download all fonts." Failure to do so may result in fonts being omitted from your PostScript and PDF file.

The specifications for JETS, BBR, JTI, and JSPL require that:

The specifications for BASOR require that:

The specifications for JAOS require that:

Failure to follow these guideline will result in the ad being returned for correction.

Alternately, Eisenbrauns will adjust the ad to specifications at an hourly rate of $75.00/hour.

Formats in order of preference

Eisenbrauns is a Postscript-based digital prepress, so logically our preference is for electronic files that can be used with little or no conversion. Our suggested formats, in order of preference:

  1. PDF
  2. TIFF or maximum-quality JPEG (see note on resolution)
  3. EPS or Illustrator file with all fonts converted to curves
  4. Application Files such as Photoshop, InDesign, etc. with all screen and printer fonts supplied.
  5. CRC (Camera Ready Copy)

We reproduce photos at a resolution of 300 dpi, and lineart at 800-1200 dpi. Where both grayscale and lineart exist in the same illustration (e.g., maps) please provide graphics at the higher resolution.

TIFF, EPS, and native file formats are preferred. JPG files of adequate resolution are also acceptable, provided that they are not overly compressed--wherever possible, the "Quality" setting should be set to "12" or "Maximum". JPG files taken from the Web and video camera stills generally do not reproduce well, as they are very low (72 dpi) resolution.
